Ok so many people have asked how I get my ratios that it isn't even funny anymore. DISCLAIMER!!!!: I did not help program 555R Challenge, so I do not know why I run close to my Dial In. But the following is my theory

For every car, Nitto provides it with the opportunity to be tested for horsepower and torque with respect to rpm's. From this curve, it is easy to see when the car is gaining, or losing horsepower, according to how hard the engine is working. Here is the basis of my theory for smooth racing - I could be completely wrong. If you can beat me consistently, then ignore this because you obviously know better than I do. My theory is that I will get smooth shifting if my horsepower does not change during my shift, and if I make sure to shift when the horsepower is not changing very much at all. This way, if I shift a little early or late than I plan to, there will not be much of a power change, therefore not much of a time change at the end of the race. Confused? Good.

Half of this theory depends on shifting in a shallow part of the curve on the horsepower graph. The other half is the ratios, and my gut tells me this part is not as important, but oh well, here it is anyway. Stock gear ratios for the cars can be found in the showroom, so if you screw up your ratios, you can refer back to these - the ones shown below are for the Civic

In order to change your car's gear ratios, you must buy the "Magic Gearbox" under the transmission section.

I make sure that when i shift, the number of rpm does not drop to a steep part of the horsepower curve. That's all there is to it. Then just for the heck of it, I like to make sure i run through all six gears in my NSX, and that the rpm gauge needle never moves too fast for me to accurately shift into 2nd gear at the rpm that I chose to shift at.
